Spa day!

Okay, so mine wasn't exactly an entire day at the spa... BUT, there are over 50 spa treatments available at the Double Eagle's Creekside Spa, so you can have many spa days in June Lake!

I got the chance to have a Shellac Manicure (admittedly my first shellac experience ever). On a beautiful snowy morning, the warm and cozy salon in the Creekside Spa just the relaxing experience I was hoping for.

The shellac manicure includes an exfoliating scrub,  hand massage, and the shellac application. Below is a quick photo documentation of my experience. A+!

Picturesque snow falling outside of the Creekside Spa.

Misha was my manicurist. Best. Hand. Massage. Ever.
Oh, and the shellac polish she applied lasted me two weeks. AMAZING!

The clear coat that precedes the colored shellac.

After the massage, I got warm and cozy mittens. All part of the relaxing treatment!

Okay. I just can't get enough of this view!

A still, silent Ron's Pond and aspens

All right. We don't want to brag, but our back yard... is this.

Ron's Pond was perfectly still this afternoon, and the one Mallard duck was my only company as I crept around the pond's perimeter.

There was a pure crispness to the air, with not a breeze in sight. It made for excellent photo-making. Surprisingly, there are still a few trees that haven't even started turning!

Anyway, these were the first photos edited. Keep an eye out for more; both as trees change and as I edit the others that I took today.

Until next time!

Play, Stay & Spaaaa at the Double Eagle Sept 18 - Dec 19, 2013

Let's face it. Fall is probably the most beautiful time to be in June Lake. Arguably, every season has its virtues. But in autumn the weather cools so a sweatshirt and jeans are all you need to explore yellow and orange aspens behind the Double Eagle Resort and Spa.

Fall also means the crowds are gone and life slows down. June Lake takes a deep sigh, one you can feel in the peaceful setting down canyon. Take a hike along the rim trail from town to the top of June Mountain, enjoy spa treatments with the Play, Stay & Spaaaa deals above. Savor a steak dinner at the Eagle's Landing Restaurant.

We invite you to take a relaxing sigh with the rest of us. Come Play, Stay & Spaaaa and experience all fall in the Eastern Sierra has to offer.

June Lake fall colors are upon us

You all know what happens here. Colors change, California continues to impress us. We can't leave, so we just take photos to explain to those who don't understand why we stay. Well, here is what June Lake looked like today. It's only getting better...

Fall colors September 2, 2013

I went out to inspect the aspens "down canyon" in June Lake around 6:30pm September 2nd, and was shocked to find red added to the few yellow leaves! There isn't much red yet, but it is just so special to catch the first glimpse of fall! Below are some photos to give you an idea of what is and is not popping as of the beginning of September this year!

Additionally, a friend and I hiked to Yost and Fern lakes on Labor Day, and the aspens were really changing to brilliant yellow up at the top!

Okay, not really a photo of aspens, but Carson Peak is just so stoic there in the background!

Is that a little red and orange I see?

This photo was taken across from the parking at Silver Lake,
before the Silver Lake Resort.

A slightly blurry, but zoomed photo of red/orange.

Some stands of aspen have not really started to change at all.

At the Rush Creek trailhead, there was little color change, but a lot of Mule Deer!

Grant Lake has gotten really low! This gives you an idea of a dry year, huh?

At the channel entrance of Grant Lake a few colors were changing.

Yosemite's Rim Fire causing some Eastside ruckus

CalFire and Yosemite National Park released an announcement this afternoon that Tioga Pass (Hwy 120) will be closed from White Wolf to Crane Flat starting at 12:30pm August 28.

Fire crews are backburning from the highway toward the fire in an effort to suppress fire.

Fear not, drivers are being advised to take Highway 108, north of Highway 120.

Yosemite Valley remains open from the other west entrances (Hwy 41 and 140).

Visibility in June Lake remains relatively clear, but as the wind patterns change, it is hard determine clarity in the coming days.

Fall colors update: August 20, 2013

Hi all!

There a few aspens just starting to change color at the north end of the June Lake Loop. The photos below were taken just off of highway 158 around Grant Lake and Silver Lake.

Further around the loop, by Gull and June lakes specifically, the leaves have yet to change color, but due to the dry conditions this year, it may be a good idea to plan your trip to the Sierra a bit earlier than normal!

Stay tuned, more photo updates to follow ....
